It should probably go without saying that if it’s a Skybound book it’s going to read well. I currently read Skybound titles such as Redneck, Extremity and I’ve read Gasolina and Green Valley, I have a Ghosted trade paperback on my shelf yet to read, and I’m now trade-waiting Birthright after reading it in floppies for the first 20 issues or so. Skybound Entertainment founder/CEO Robert Kirkman and company have a lot to be proud of these days. They’re one of the best comics lines around, a line that also includes Manifest Destiny, Kill the Minotaur, Outcast, Invincible, and of course The Walking Dead. And I have no doubt the Image Comics remaining founders/partners are glad they made Mr. Kirkman a partner nine years ago. 1st Issue Fetish The newest Skybound title Slots by creator/writer/artist Dan Panosian – the first issue was yet another fine Skybound read. It takes place in Vegas and features a middle-aged guy trying to get back in the game – of gambling and boxing – and make a big score. Is …
Finally read the first two issues of Extremity and I gotta say I’m really digging this new series from Image Comics via Skybound Entertainment. Action packed, fast-paced storytelling with good and very energetic art. I think in this case it really helps that the creator/writer/aritst Daniel Warren Johnson is drawing the story himself. With Extremity it looks like Skybound has yet another fine comic series on its roster, along with Redneck, Green Valley, Birthright, Manifest Destiny and of course the Robert Kirkman books. Does Skybound even publish a bad book? I don’t think so. Many kudos to Kirkman, editor Sean Mackiewicz and co. for their eye for talent. Incidentally I recently noticed that these newer Skybound books are coming in with a $3.99 price point, while the mainstays retain the $2.99 price point. And any rate, keep an eye on this series. I think it’s going to be a sleeper hit.
Coming in August is the first issue to the Robert Kirkman-created miniseries DEMONIC, written by Christopher Sebela and illustrated by Niko Walter with colors by Dan Brown. From the solicitation: Detective Scott Graves will do anything to protect his family… even bargain away his soul. Now, the only thing to fear isn’t New York’s worst criminals, but what’s already raging inside of him. After all, what’s the cost of your soul when it’s already damaged? Eisner-nominated writer Christopher Sebela (High Crimes), newcomer Niko Walter and colorist Dan Brown unleash a vigilante who answers to no man, only the demon within. Demonic #1 (of 6) ships August 17th from SkyBound Entertainment and Image Comics for $2.99. And unholy shit! Take a look at this beautiful alternate cover! We all know Robert Kirkman loves doing his own riff on those Marvel teasers, and given the current movement at Marvel, I’d say this little Image EXPO teaser falls right in line. So, in other words, don’t be fooled into thinking that the Skybound/Image title will actually be getting relaunched. Now or ever. Kirkman’s an independent creator very proud of his longevity and the legacy numbering of his titles. This is just for fun, shits n’ giggles. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have.
